2 1/2 c sifted enriched flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 c brown sugar
2/3 c shortening
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 c sour milk
2 well-beaten eggs

Combine flour, salt, sugar, and shortening; mix till crumbly. reserve 1/2 cup mixture.

To remaining crumbs, add baking powder, soda an spices, mix thoroughly. Add milk and eggs; mix well. Pour into 2 waxed-paper-lines 8x8x2 inch baking pans; sprinkle with reserved crumbs.

Chopped nuts and cinnamon may be sprinkled over crumbs. Bake in moderate oven (375) 25 to 30 minutes.
