2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp ground allspice

1 egg
1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
2/3 cup dark molasses
6 Tbsp softened butter

Sift together and mix first 8 ingredients. In large mixing bowl beat together eggs, brown sugar, molasses and butter. Add dry ingredients and mix until well blended Cover and refrigerates for one hour. Preheat oven to 350º. Sift flour onto flat rolling surface and rolling pin to keep dough from sticking. Roll out a portion of dough 1/4 inch thick. cut out your gingerbread people with a floured cookie cutter. Place 1 inch apart on a greased cookie sheet. Can be decorated with raisins. Bake 8 minutes or until slightly firm to touch. Cool on wire rack. Decorate if desired
