2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
10 tbsp. unsalted butter, softened
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. dark brown sugar
1 large egg
1 large egg yolk
1/4 c. molasses
1 tsp. vanilla extract
b oz. bar of bittersweet chocolate, chopped into large chunks

Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and cloves. Beat together butter, 1/4 sugar, and dark brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and egg yolk mix until combined. Add molasses and vanilla. Add dry ingredients in two batches mixing until just combined. Roll dough into 2 inch balls and roll in remaining sugar. Place on parchment lined baking sheets about 3 inches apart and flatten slightly.

Bake at 350 about 14 minutes until lightly browned and firm around the edges. Cool on wire rack.
