Prepare 6 onions (at least 4 inches in diameter) cut about 3/4 inch from top of each onion. Cut each onion vertically 6 times and then turn and cut 6 times the other way. DO NOT CUT ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE ROOT END! Separate petals slightly but leave attached to root. Place onion into hot water about 2 minutes. Remove, dip immediately into ice water. Remove, dip onion into flour mixture and shake off excess flour. Be sure petals are separated and coated.

2 cups all purpose flour
4 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

3 cup cornstarch
1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 cup sugar or splenda
1 teaspoon black pepper
Mix all ingredients well then add;
24 ounce beer
1 egg
Mix well

Dip each onion in batter making sure it is well coated. Let excess drip back into bowl. Deep fry at 375 for 1 1/2 minutes, turn over and fry 1 1/2 minutes or until golden brown.

Personal Notes:
Place a wooden spoon on each side of onion while slicing and this will prevent you from cutting all the way through.
