1/4 c. butter softened
1 - 2/3 c. sugar
1/2 c. unsweetened applesauce
2- 1/4 c.all- purpose flour
2/3 c. baking cocoa
1 -1/4 tsp.baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 -1/4 cs. water
1 c. semisweet chocolate chips
Frosting: 1 pkg.(8oz.)reduced fat cream cheese
1/3 c. confectioners sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 carton(8oz.)cool whip thawed

In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until crumbly, about 2 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each one. Beat in applesauce. Combine the flour, cocoa, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Add to the butter mixture alternately with water , beating well after each addition. Fold in chips. Pour in sprayed 13 by 9 baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 - 40 minutes or till toothpick comes out clean in center. Cool. For frosting , in a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and confectioners sugar. Beat in vanilla. Fold in whip topping. Refrigerate till serving.
