1 c. shortening
1 c. Sugar
4 c. Milk
1 pkg. yeast
1/4 c. lukewarm water
1 tsp. sugar
10-12 c. flour/divided
1 tsp. Baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. Baking powder
Additional shortening to grease pans.

Scald shortening, sugar, and milk in a sauce pan. Cool to lukewarm. Mix 1/4 cup water, 1tsp of sugar and yeast. Add to mixture. To this add flour as for cake batter, about 6 cups. Cover and let rise. To this add baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Add more flour. Knead for 10 minutes. Cover and place in refrigerator overnight. Preheat oven to 375. Grease pans. Roll out dough and cut out. Place in pans and let rise for 1 hour. Place in oven and bake until golden brown.
