1/2 c. crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 oz. red food coloring
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. sifted cake flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. vinegar
2 tbsp. cocoa

Butter Icing

1 box powdered sugar
1 (8oz) pkg. cream cheese softened
1 stick butter softened

Cream crisco and sugar. Add eggs. In a cup, mix cocoa and food coloring and add to sugar mixture. Sift together salt and flour. Add alternately with buttermilk., Beat until smooth. Fold in soda and vinegar. Bake in three greased and floured cake pans at 300 for 20 - 30 minutes. Cool before frosting.

Cream together cream cheese and butter then add powdered sugar. Mix well and spread on cooled cake. Top with pecans if desired
