1/4 c. butter
1/3 c. brown sugar, packed
1/3 c. dark corn syrup or molasses
1/2 c. apple or orange juice
1 egg
1-1/4 c. all purpose flour
1 t. baking soda
1 t. cinnamon
1 t. ground ginger
1/4 t. ground cloves
1/4 t. nutmeg
1/4 t. salt
1 chopped apple
1/4 cup powdered sugar

In a medium saucepan melt butter. Add brown sugar, syrup, and juice and mix until blended. Remove from heat and stir in beaten egg. Combine flour, baking soda, spices and salt. Combine with molasses mixture . Stir in apple. Pour into a greased, floured 8x8 in. baking pan. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes until center is firm. Cut into squares and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Yield: 16 squares.
