4 . cucumbers
2 qrt onion
4 T pickling salt
6 cup sugar
2 tsp tumbler powder
1 1/2 t celery seed
2 tsp mustard seed
3/4 tsp ground cloves
1 1/2 cup water
4 1/2 cup vinegar

Grind cucumbers and onion together, add salt and let stand 2 hours. Drain liquid.
Add sugar, tumbler, celery seed, mustard seed, ground cloves, vinegar and water
Put on fire (grandma's wording), barely simmer. Do not boil. Stir often. Cook 15 - 20 minutes. Put into sterile jars, seal.
