Red Velvet Cake Recipe

1/2 c shortening
1 1/2 c sugar
2 eggs
3 T red food coloring
2 tsp cocoa
2 c flour
1 tsp salt
1 c buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla
1 T. vinegar
1 1/2 tsp soda

1) Mix shortening, sugar, and eggs until fluffy
2) Mix red food coloring and cocoa together and add to (1)
3) Sift flour and salt together and add alternately with buttermilk to #1 then add vanilla
4) Mix vinegar and soda and fold into above mixture

Bake 375 for 35 minutes in two 9" greased round pans

1 C. milk, 5 T. Flour

Cook until very think, then cool in refrigerator. Add 1 1/2 sticks of butter. Add 1 C sugar and beat until fluffy, 5 minutes or more.

Frost cake and sprinkle top with chopped nuts
