Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 cup molasses
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup Crisco
1/4 butter
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp baking soda (in a little boiling water)

Directions:
Directions:
Put the sugar in pan and mix in melt shortening and margarine (the shortening should be bubbly). Dissolve the baking soda in the boiling water and stir in the molasses and baking soda water. Stir well. Add the spices to sifted flour and gradually add to the dough, mixing with your hands. The dough should be almost stiff enough to roll. If you gently push on the dough, you shoud be able to leave an indentation. When you have added enough flour and mixed it in well enough, it should take on a bit of a shine.

Cover the dough and let rest overnight, unrefrigerated.
When ready to bake, use a tea towel dusted with flour top roll out the cookies (or any dry non-absorbent dry space). Place a small lump of dough on floured surface and roll to 1/8" thin. The dough is very elastic--you can roll it until you can almost see through it. Cut with cookie cutters in a variety of shapes, place on greased cookie sheet and bake at 350º.
