Preheat oven to 350

2 sticks oleo or butter, I use one of each
1 1/2 cup sifted confectioner sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 ts. almond flavoring
2 1/2 cups plain flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar

Cream the butter and sugar together until smooth. Mix in egg
and flavorings. Add dry ingredients and mix well. It is easy to
put the soda and tartar in the 1/2 cup of flour and mix before
adding.Put the dough in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 hours.
Divide the dough in half and roll on a floured pastry board.
Bake on a greased cookie sheet for 7 to 8 minutes. If you
want chewy cookies, roll out thicker and shorten cooking
time.

You can add food coloring after mixing flour in.
I use an electric mixer for everything.
