4 medium-sized tart apples, peeled, cored and sliced

2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 Tbsp. baking powder

12 Tbsp. butter or margarine, cut into pieces
5 Tbsp. milk

1/3 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. grated nutmeg
2 Tbsp. butter, cut into small pieces.

Sift together flour, salt and baking powder. Cut in 12 tablespoons butter. Stir in the milk to moisten the dough.

On a lightly floured surface roll dough to a 10 x 15 x 14 inch rectangle. Cut the dough into six 5-inch squares. Put equal amount of sliced apple in the center of the squares.

Mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg, and divide evenly over the apples. Dot with two tablespoons butter. Fold each square in half diagonally to make a triangle. Press the edges together with a fork.

Place the turnovers 1/2 inch apart on a baking sheet, and put in a preheated 450º oven. Immediately reduce the heat to 375º and bake for 35 minutes or until brown.
