2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 c. melted shortening
1 c. buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour and measure. Add baking powder, soda and salt and sift together three times. Add shortening to the buttermilk and pour into dry ingredients. Stir lightly until it forms a soft dough. Turn onto well-floured board and knead 12 to 15 times. Roll out to 1-inch thickness and cut with biscuit cutter or into squares. Place in pans and butter the tops of the biscuits. Bake in 450º oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until brown.
