Recipe for Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies

Fig Filling:
1 cup chopped figs
Grated rind of 1 lemon
1 cup boiling water
1/2 cup sugar
2 tbsp flour

Directions:
Directions:
Use recipe for Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies. Cut in long strips 3" wide. Spread half the strips with Fig Filling and cover with remaining strips. Press edges together with fork, cut strips in 2" lengths. Bake on greased cookie sheet in moderate oven (350º) about 20 minutes. Makes 2 dozen. To make fig filling: add figs and lemon rind to boiling water. Mix sugar and flour, add some of hot mixture and stir into remaining hot mixture; cook 5 minutes. Cool.
