Tandoori Shrimp Recipe

2 cloves garlic, minced
1 piece fresh ginger, about 2 inches long, peeled, and cut up
3 T. fresh lemon or lime juice
1/4 t. ground turmeric
1 T. ground cumin
1/2 t. salt
2 fresh jalapeno chili peppers, seeded and minced
1 c. nonfat plain yogurt
1 T. paprika, plus paprika for garnish
1 1/2 lbs. large shrimp
lemon or lime wedges

In a food processor using metal blade or in a blender combine garlic, ginger, juice, turmeric cumin, salt, jalapenos, yogurt and 1 T. paprika. Process till well blended. Transfer to a glass or plastic bowl add shrimp and toss to coat evenly. Cover and marinate in refrigerator about 1 hour. Place skewers (12) in water to cover and soak for about 15 to 30 minutes. Drain skewers, remove shrimp from marinade. Holding 2 skewers parallel, thread 4 or 5 shrimp onto the skewer, holding shrimp flat. Place on an oiled grill rack and grill for 2 minutes, turn and grill two more minutes till they turn pink. Sprinkle with paprika and serve immediately with lemon or lime wedges.
