1 c water
1 c seedles raisins
1/2 c salad oil or shortening
1 c sugar
1 egg slightly beaten
1 3/4 c sifted flour
1/2 tbsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp allspice
1 tsp ground cloves
1/2 c chopped nuts

Lemon Icing:
1 1/2 Confectioners Sugar
Some butter
Lemon Juice
Lemon grated rind

Combine water and raisins. Bring to boiling and remove from heat. Stir in shortening or salad oil. Cool to lukewarm. Stir in sugar and egg.

Sift together 7 dry ingredients and beat into raisin mixture. Stir in nuts.

Icing: Combine confectioners sugar, butter, moisten with lemon juice and grated rind.

Pour into greased 13 X 9 inch pan. Bake at 325 or 350 oven depending on how accurate your oven is. Mine runs hot so I put it on 325. Bake for 35 minutes or until done.
