1 cup oil
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
3 cups chopped apples
1 cup chopped nuts

1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup milk
3/4 stick margarine

Mix oil, sugar and vanilla. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each one. Add dry ingredients (mixture will be thick).
Fold in apples and nuts.
Bake in flat pan at 350 for 35 minutes OR
Bake in tube pan at 350 for one hour.

While cake is baking, prepare topping by combining all ingredients and bringing to a boil.

Pour topping over cake in pan while it is still hot and let it stand overnight. Holes poked in the cake with a fork allow the cake to absorb more of the topping.
