Oatmeal Cookies with Date Filling Recipe

1 1/2 c. brown sugar
2 c. flour
1/2 c. sour milk
3 c. oatmeal
1 c. shortening
1 tsp. soda in milk

1 pound dates cut in pieces
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups water
1 cup walnuts cut in pieces

Rub sugar, flour, oatmeal and shortening together as
pie crust. Add milk and soda.
Boil filling ingredients together until thick.
Roll cookies thin and cut with a circle cookie cutter.
Place a dab of the date filling on the cookie and cover
with another circle of dough (same size as bottom).
Bake in moderate (350) until light golden brown.
