1 1/4 c butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 c sugar
1 egg
1 c flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
6 T cocoa
1/4 c water
3 c rolled oats
1 pkg semisweet chocolate chips

Cream butter and vanilla; add sugar gradually, creaming until fluffy. Add egg and beat vigorously. Blend next four ingredients; add alternately with water to creamed mixture, beating after each addition. Add oats gradually, then chocolate. Drop by tablespoonfuls about 2" apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes. NOTE: Chilling the dough overnight improves the flavor.
