Ginger Orange Bars Recipe

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup molasses
1 egg
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon ginger
2/3 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup chopped pecans
2 teaspoons grated orange peel

2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons butter, softened
1/2 teaspoon grated orange peel
3-4 tablespoons orange juice

Heat oven 350.

Grease 15 x 10 x 1 baking pan.

In bowl, combine sugar and 1/2 cup butter. Add molasses and egg; beat well.

In bowl, combine flour, baking soda and ginger; add to sugar mixture with buttermilk; mix well.

Stir in nuts and 2 teaspoons orange peel. Spread in greased pan.

Bake for 15-20 minutes.

In bowl, combine all frosting ingredients, adding enough orange juice for spreading consistency.

Spread over cooled bars.
