3/4 c sugar
1/2 c butter or margarine
2 eggs
2 c sifted all purpose flour
1 t baking soda
1/2 t salt
1 c buttermilk
1 c chopped pecans
1 10oz jar maraschino cherries, drained and chopped (1 cup)
1 t vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
In a large mixer bowl, cream together sugar, butter or margarine, and eggs till light and fluffy. Sift together flour, soda, and salt; add to creamed mixture with the buttermilk. Beat till blended. Stir in nuts, cherries, and vanilla. Pour batter into greased 9x5x3 inch loaf pan. Bake in 350 oven for 55 to 60 minutes. Remove from pan; cool. Glaze with confectioners sugar icing, if desired.
