Margaret's Sugar Cookies Recipe

1 c. butter or margarine
1 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 tsps. vanilla
3 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsps. cream of tartar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar, eggs, & vanilla together. Sift together flour, salt, soda, & cream of tartar. Slowly blend into sugar mixture. Roll out on floured board to 1/4" thickness. Cut into shapes with favorite cookie cutters. Bake at 425º for 6-8 min. Cool completely & frost with following:

1/2 c. margarine, melted
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Beat ingredients together, adding small amounts of milk until desired consistency. Frosting can be divided and drops of food coloring can be added to ingredients to make different colored cookies.

These are great for different holiday-shaped cookies. Margaret used to bring these into the phone company when I worked there for us to enjoy!!! Margaret was a great cook just like Mom--two wonderful women looking down on us from heaven.
