Ingredients:
1/2 C. butter
1 C. white sugar
2 beaten eggs
8 oz. dates, chopped fine
1 C. all purpose flour
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. salt
1 C. chopped nuts
2-1/2 C. Rice Krispies cereal

Directions:
Directions:
Place butter, sugar, eggs and dates in saucepan and bring to boil over over medium heat, stirring constantly. Turn heat to low and continue to stir and cook for 5 minutes. Add 1 C. flour, stir and cook 5 - 7 minutes more. Take off heat and add salt, nuts, vanilla extract and Rice Krispies. Mixture will be very stiff and difficult to stir. Let cool slightly until cool enough to handle. Do not refrigerate before shaping.

June used to shape these into strawberry shapes and roll in red colored sugar. You can also roll into balls and roll half in red sugar and half in green sugar. Refrigerate in air tight container.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
A classic Christmas cookie. A note on the recipe card says June got this recipe from Mabel Elder. We lived with Mabel Elder for several months when our house on Heck Road was being built. She eventually moved to East Palestine and I used to go visit her overnight once in awhile. She used to make me the absolute best salmon patties when I visited her.
