1/2 c. butter
3/4 c. sugar
1 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. baking powder
2 eggs
pinch of sat
24 halves pitted purple plums
sugar
lemon juice
1 tsp. cinnamon for topping

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and butter; add flour, baking powder, eggs and salt; beat well. Spoon batter into spring-form pan - 8, 9, or 10" pan. Place plums, skin side up on top of batter. Sprinkle lightly with sugar and lemon juice and cinnamon. Bake 1 hr. in 350º oven. Remove and serve with ice cream. If desired, freeze; then defrost & reheat briefly at 300º.
VARIATION: For apple torte: follow directions for plums, but peel 2 or 3 apples & arrange over batter. Sprinkle generously with cinnamon, 1 tbsp. lemon juice and 1 tbsp. sugar. Bake and serve as with plums.
