1 cup butter or margarine
½ tspn of baking powder
2/3 cups sugar
2 ¼ cups of flour
1 egg (beaten slightly)
1 tspn. of almond extract

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, add sugar and then the beaten egg. Add sifted dry ingredients and extract. Pack into “cookie press” and press through desired design plate onto ungreased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with colored sugar or sprinkles.

Bake 10 minutes in 375 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until a light golden color.

I remember making these with Mom as a teenager. I loved making these at Christmas time. We used to use colored sugar and cinnamon balls to decorate them. Sometimes we would use food coloring to color the dough itself.

I used to make them for my children and now I make them with my grandchildren. They love doing the decorating. Ken has even come to help once or twice. It's a great family Christmas activity centered around the kitchen and kids love participating.
