1/2 c shortening, 1/8 tsp. salt, 1/2 cup cocoa, 2 1/2 c. cake sifted flour, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1 c. sugar, 1/3 c. cold water, 3 eggs, beaten stiff, 3/4 c. sugar, 1 1/2 tsp. soda, 1 Tbl. boiling water

Cream well shortening, salt and sugar. Mix well cocoa, flour, vanilla, cold water, and eggs. Add 3/4 c. sugar mix in dough slowly. Add 1 1/2 tsp. soda in 1 Tbl. hot water. Bake at 350 about 45 min.( 9x13 pan)
