Note use large white coffee cup: 1 c. coiling water, 1 tsp soda, 1 c. chopped dates. 1/2 c. sugar, 1 beaten egg, 1/2 c. nuts, 2 c. flour, 1/2 c. brown sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla, 2 Tbl. butter

Directions:
Soak the 1st 3 ingredients in large coffee cup. Let stand until cool. Mix: the rest of ingredients in bowl. Add date mixture. mix well. Pour into greased loaf pan. Bake 45 min at 350
