"A man who was fond of wine was offered some grapes at dessert after dinner. "Much obliged," said he, pushing the plate aside; "I am not accustomed to take my wine in pills."--Jean Antheleme Brillat-Savarin, The Physiology of Taste

1 loaf French bread
1/2 Ib ground meat
1/8 t pepper
3/4 t salt
1 can tomato paste (6 0z)
1 1/2 t chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped olives
1/4 t ground oregano
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
2 tomatoes
6 - one ounce sliced processed cheese

Cut loaf of bread into halves [horizontally]. Combine ingredients except fresh tomatoes and cheese. Spread meat thinly on cut sides of each half loaf, being careful to cover the bread on the edges so it will not burn during the broiling. Place loaves, meat side up, on a cookie sheet and bake in oven @ 350 for 25 minutes. Remove from oven. Place thinly sliced tomatoes on top of meat. Cut cheese slices in half diagonally. Slightly overlap 3 cheese triangles on each half loaf. Return to oven until cheese starts to soften. Cut into 6 servings.
