Sift all dry ingredients except powdered sugar together in a bowl. Blend egg and milk and add to dry ingredients. Beat until smooth. Place finger over tip of funnel and fill the funnel with about 1/3 cup of batter. Hold funnel over a skillet containing 1 inch of heated oil. Carefully take finger from tip of funnel and let batter drip out in a stream. Fry until golden brown, turning one time with two spatulas. Drain cake on paper towel.
