"I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure."--Anthony Bourdain
This recipe for Mrs. Watson's Gumdrop Cookies, by Alison Acone, is from Family Favorites ,
one of the cookbooks created at FamilyCookbookProject.com. We help
families or individuals create heirloom cookbook treasures.
1 cup margerine 1 cup sugar 1 cup brown sugar 2 eggs 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 1/4 tsp. salt 2 cups flour 1 cup shredded coconut 2 cups oatmeal
Cream together margerine with sugars. Add eggs and beat until fluffy. Combine next 4 ingredients and add to egg mixture, mix in coconut and oatmeal.
Roll into balls and press 2 or 3 gumdrops into each cookie. Bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes or until brown.
Mrs. Watson was the mom of Jon's college roommate, Jeff. She would send these cookies in care packages, and Jon loved them so much she sent the recipe... probably so Jeff could get a chance to eat hers and Jon could bake his own. :)
