1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1 c. molasses
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 c. water
2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the sugar and shortening together then add the egg, molasses, and dry ingredients (which have been sifted). Add the hot water and beat until smooth. Bake at 325 for 35 minutes.
