1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1/2 c. white syrup
2 sq. baker's chocolate, or 2 T. cocoa powder in hot water to make a paste
1 3/4 c. cake flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
Icing:
1 c. syrup
2 egg whites
8 large marshmallows
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Blend shortening and sugar well. Add the salt, vanilla, and eggs and combine well. Add the syrup and chocolate and beat well. Sift dry ingredients. Add the the shortening mixuture alternately with the buttermilk. Bake in layers at 350 for 30-35 minutes.
Icing: Beat over a double boiler until thick. Stir in the marshmallows, cut into smaller pieces or you can use the mini marshmallows. Add the vanilla and beat.
