"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Directions:
Mix water and milk, bring to a slow boil and add oats. Add brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, butter, salt, almond extract and raisins. Stir constantly over a simmer until thickened. Serve topped with cinnamon and more milk if desired. I like to add almond extract too, it makes a nice addition.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
My Dad was never without a home cooked meal in our house. Even though he really didn't do the cooking, he knew how things should taste.
Dad's contribution to our kitchen was making homemade oatmeal, which tasted like a dessert, and the best pancakes. We always looked forward to "Breakfast for Dinner" night.
