1 cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. butter
1 cup nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
2 3/4 cups flour
1 1/2 cups boiling water
2 cups dates (pitted)

Directions:
Directions:
Cover dates with boiling water. Cream sugar and butter, add egg. Add soda to date and water mixture. Add water drained from dates and then flour alternately.Then add nuts, dates and vanilla. Bake in loaf pans about 1 hour in moderate oven. I would say that was a 350 oven. Makes 2 loaves.
