1 c. packed brown sugar
3/4 c. shortening
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 1/4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 t. ground cinnamon
1 t. ground ginger
1/2 t. ground cloves
1/4 t. salt
granulated sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 375. Mix brown sugar, shortening, egg and molasses. Mix in remaining ingredients except granulate sugar. Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls. Dip tops in granulated sugar.

Place balls, sugared sides up, about 3 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake just until set, 10-12 minutes. Immediately remove from cookie sheet.

These were my favorite cookies when I was a little girl. I loved shaping the little balls and rolling them in sugar. Smells so good in the oven on a cold day!
