Spanish Rice Recipe

1 c. uncooked rice
1 clove garlic
14 c. shortening or oil
1 tsp. salf
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 small onion, chopped
1/2 lb. hamburger
1/2 c. chopped carrots
1/2 c. chopped string beans
2 c. tomato sauce
1 c. beef broth

Wash rice and drain. Rub the pan with garlic. Heat oil and rice for 5 minutes. Add salt and pepper and stir for 15 minutes. Add more oil if necessary. Add browned hamburger and chopped vegetables. Cook for 5 minutes. Add tomato sauce and beef broth. Lower heat. Cover and simmer for 25 minutes.
