1 cup butter or shortening at room temp.
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 cup buttermilk
3 eggs
4 cups enriched all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 to 2 tsp. grated nutmeg
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400. Cream butter and sugar well.
Dissolve soda in buttermilk; add to butter-sugar mixture.
Add eggs. flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg and vanilla and mix until dough forms.
Roll out on lightly floured board and cut with a cookie cutter.
Bake on ungreased cookie sheet until lightly browned.
Makes about 75 cookies
