1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups of flour
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
pinch of salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix the butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla. Beat well. Add dry ingredients. Chill awhile. Slice. If you have teflon cookie sheets, do not grease. If stainless steel, grease lightly because they stick. Put in oven 350 for 8 to 10 minutes. Sprinkle sugar on top of cookies before baking. Add nuts on top of colored sugar, if desired.
