2 lbs. pitted dates

2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Sift flour, sugar, salt and baking powder together three times. Put fruit and nuts (leave whole) in large bowl, then add dry ingredients. Separate egg yolks and whites. Beat egg yolks and mix with fruit and dry ingredients. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold in vanilla. Bake 1 hour and 25 minutes at 325 in pan lined with well greased heavy brown paper (or use non-stick loaf pans - but the brown paper keeps the dates next to the pan softer and from getting overcooked).

Personal Notes:
A tradition from my grandmother (at least), I make this at Christmastime (cuz it's too much trouble for other times of the year.)
