"I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure."--Anthony Bourdain
This recipe for Apple Cake, by Kimberlee Roth, is from The Hart Family Cookbook,
one of the cookbooks created at FamilyCookbookProject.com. We help
families or individuals create heirloom cookbook treasures.
Cake: 3 c flour 4 c grated apple 2 c sugar 1 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp salt 2 tsp soda 2 tsp vanilla 2/3 c oil
Topping: 1 c brown sugar 1 c chopped nuts (walnuts) ½ c flour ½ c butter
In a large bowl dump all of the ingredients for the cake except the oil. Mix well. Add oil and beat. Pour into a greased and floured 9"x13" pan. Then mix topping with a pastry cutter or fork works. Sprinkle on the cake and bake at 350º for 50 minutes.
--This recipe is great in the fall. It is a heavy cake but really tasty with a dollop of whip cream on top.
