2 cups sugar
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup Crisco
1/2 cup margarine or butter
1 teaspoon soda

Directions:
Directions:
Combine sugar, buttermilk, Crisco, margarine and soda in a 6 quart sauce pan. Cook to soft ball stage on candy thermometer, stirring almost constantly until the mixture turns caramel color. Beat on high speed with hand mixer until creamy. Spread on cake.
