Ingredients:  
1 C. Brown Sugar 1 tsp. Cinnamon
1 C. Raisins 1/2 tsp. Nutmeg
1/3 C. Shortening 1/4 tsp. Salt
BOIL for 3 min. Cool.

ADD:
1 tsp. Soda in 1 C.hot water 1 tsp. Baking Powder
2 C. Flour 1/2 C. Nuts, optional

Directions:
Directions:
Boil the above ingredients for 3 minutes. Cool, add soda in hot water. Stir in flour, baking powder, and (1/2 C. nuts, optional)
Bake 350 for 25-30 minutes

This was from the oven of Grandma Tommy (Marie Tomlinson). They could use this recipe, even when butter, eggs and milk were not available. I remember this cake, sugar cream pie, and banana pudding with Spanish peanuts as desserts special to my grandma.
