"I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure."--Anthony Bourdain
This recipe for Dar's Bar's, by Darlene Newton, is from THE BIG BLUE JAR ,
one of the cookbooks created at FamilyCookbookProject.com. We help
families or individuals create heirloom cookbook treasures.
1/2 cup butter 2 cup brown sugar 1 cup chopped nuts (walnut or pecan) 3/4 cup coconut 1 cup raisins 2 tsp. vanilla 1/2 cup milk or cream
For base; cut all three ingredients together until butter is size of small peas. Press into 9 X 13 pan and bake in 350º oven for 15 minutes. While the base bakes prepare topping on stove top. In heavy pot bring all ingredients to boil over medium heat for 3 minutes. Pour over base and bake at 350º for 5 minutes. Once cool, cut into squares.
30 minutes at most, very quick
These have been a favorite at many a holiday or anytime they are made. Problem is they go fast and there is never enough.
