5 cups toasted filberts 1 cup sugar 5 tablespoons water 1 tablespoon cinnamon Few grains of salt 1 teaspoon vanilla
Toast filberts by placing in 275º oven for 20 minutes. Rub them together with hands to remove part of brown skins. Combine sugar, water, cinnamon and salt. Bring to full rolling boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and add vanilla and nuts. Stir till syrup looks cloudy. Pour on buttered pans. When cool break apart.
