2 c cornmeal
3 t baking powder
1/4 t soda
1/2 t salt
1-1/2 c buttermilk
1 egg, beaten
1/3 c melted shortening or oil

Directions:
Directions:
Put shortening in 12-inch iron skillet and put in oven while pre-heating to 400 . Mix dry ingredients. Mix liquid ingredients and combine with dry ingredients. Pour in the hot shortening and mix only enough to combine . Pour into hot skillet. Bake about 25 minutes till lightly brown.
