1 c shortening
3/4 c brown sugar
3/4 c white sugar
1 tsp soda
1 tbsp warm water
3/4 tsp salt
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 3/4 to 2 c flour
2 c oatmeal
1 c chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve soda in warm water. Cream shortening, sugars, add eggs and beat. Add vanilla and soda. Add dry ingredients, one cup at a time, beating well between. Add chips, bake on greased cookie sheet at 375 for 8 to 10 minutes. Take out when barely brown.
