2/3 c butter
2 c sugar
4 eggs, separated
2 c flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 c milk
1/4 c hot mashed potatoes (1 small potato)
2 tbsp cocoa or 1 square chocolate
1 c chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter until light; gradually add sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg yolks. Combine flour, baking powder and spices; add to mixture alternately with milk. Add hot potatoes, cocoa, and nuts. Mix until blended. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in two large layer or a cake pan at 375 for 25 to 25 minutes, or until cake springs back when lightly touched. Cool 10 minutes and remove from pans.
