3 cooking apples, such as Granny Smith
3 ripe pears, such as Bartlett or Bose
2 tbsp lemon juice
1/4 c orange juice
2 tbsp grated orange zest
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
dash of nutmeg
1/4 c sugar
1/2 c uncooked rolled oats
1/4 c flour
1/3 dark brown sugar, packed
3 tbsp unsalted butter

Peel, quarter and core apples and pears and cut pieces into thin slices. Immediately toss with lemon juice to prevent discoloration. Combine fruit with orange juice, orange zest, cinnamon and nutmeg and arrange in even layer in 9x13 inch baking dish.

Combine granulated sugar, oats, flour, brown sugar and butter and use fingers to create a coarse meal. Pat topping over fruit and bake on center shelf at 350 45 minutes. Serve immediate at room temperature.

Cobbler can be made up to 2 days in advance and refrigerated, covered with plastic wrap. To serve hot, reheat, covered, at 300 degrees 10 minutes, remove cover and bake 5 minutes longer.
