2 cups sugar
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp soda
1/4 cup butter
2 tbsp light corn syurp

Directions:
Directions:
Combine buttermilk and soda in a heavy sauce pan; let stand 20 minutes. Add sugar and corn syurp; bring to a boil, stirring until sugar is desolved. Add butter; cook
to 238º on candy thermometer, stirring occasionally. Candy will turn medium brown. Cool slightly; beat candy until it losses its gloss and starts to thicken; quickly stir in pecans. Spread into an 8 inch pan, cut into squares. Yield: 15 to 20 pieces Prep: 30 minutes

I find in making sweets a few drops to 1/2 tsp of almond flavor enhances any flavor.
